myLot Discussions| do calcium tablets provide calcuim or help absorb calcium? | | am lactose intolerant and i do remember that when i was unable to get a hold of calci-aid orange juice drink (it was already phased out then. it is now in tablet form) i took calcium tablets since i was pregnant and two of us need it already. i gave birth and relied on added calcium in drinks for my calcium requirements. however, i recently thought of going back to calcium tablets until i read that calcium tablets help absorb calcium. i thought they were supplements already in the first place? | |

Just I read the other day too much calcium in our body is not good...the excess one will go to our urine and form calcium oxalateand this will turn then to renal or kidney stones...

He cited two tests- the Harvard Nurses' Study and an Australian study. Both studies confirmed that Calcium intake does not prevent fractures due to bone loss. In fact nurses who had the highest calcium intakes actually had an increased risk of bone fracture.
Al Sears explained that it is actually hormones and exercise that controls bone loss. If a person wants strong bones for life, there are six things that need to be done.
1.Exercise:The best to increase bone density and reduce fractures is body weight exercises(like calisthenics)and resistance training.
2.Skip calcium supplements: Get your calcium through your diet. Eat a variety of small fish, dark, leafy green vegetables, almonds and cashews, or dairy products like milk, cheese, and yogurt.

My 8 year old daughter doest want to drink milk anymore. And I hate of being see here with bone problems in the future. The only type of calcium supplemnt I can get here is Shellcall, which I am told is dangerous as it gives kidney stones.Please tell me what type of calcium supplements you take, are they herbal or over the counter types?I'm really interested to get some herbal ones, but perhaps it's not possible...anyway I'm sure my lady friends on mylot will have lots of valuable info to share.I'm abit worried as I have a mild arthritis and really do need to take something to compensate for this. | |
